Maybe it’s because its acceptable for glittering accessories to be used on everything, or because twinkling fairy lights are often brightening the room, or simply the excitement of bringing everyone together in their best winter clobber.  Whatever the magic of the day brings there is just something so inviting about winter weddings, it’s our favourite time of the year for hosting that special day – and we don’t just mean December!  We love a chance to get creative and a winter wedding lets us showcase our newest packages, cute accessories and tasty menus.   Not to mention giving us a reason to zap away those January blues!  Play it cool like Eclectic with some of these heart-warming winter wedding ideas.

The cold never bothered us anyway

If you’re like us and would happily embrace the winter chills with the help of a good coat and some strong outdoor heating then a Rooftop haven might be the right winter wedding setting for you.  We’re not talking al fresco dining with your nearest and dearest frozen stiff by your side, simply finding a city centre spot to position you ready for gazing over the deepest blue winter skies.  For those who would rather admire the snow from a safe distance with your loved ones all neatly tucked up under one roof, the Oyster bar at Great John street hotel offers a split level dining experience, complete with fire-burning stove in the cosy setting of the Library Lounge.  Utterly romantic!

Eat, drink and be married

Bringing everyone together to celebrate you and your partner is going to be wonderful in its own right, it’s going to be the day you plan more than any other in your life and winter weddings will involve making some tough choices.  Mulled wine or hot toddy?  Silver or rose-gold table cloths?  To eat or not to eat?  Okay that last question was just a desperate pun placement; of course you’re going to eat!  The real question is what you are going to eat, with ever expanding menu options available the choice of your first meal as a betrothed couple is one of the most difficult out there.  You might have your heart set on a traditional 3 course seated wedding breakfast, or a delicate serving of afternoon tea might perfectly match your vintage theme.  Or you could have stumbled across our winter menus and now have to toy with the idea of a delectable hog roast as a feature and an extra bit of warmth out on the terrace.  Yup, some menus out there are hotter than summer.

To have and to hold in case you get cold

Now back to that resplendent Rooftop Playground over at Great John street hotel.  We accepted the challenge of the bitter English winter years ago and decided to take it on to really revel in the splendour of our outdoor space, equipping it with dual cantilever parasols and heating in every possible corner.  Call us traditionalists but when going in to battle it’s important to look your best, so we did what any good warrior would do, and accessorised.   To really ignite the celebrations we added sparklers to our winter wedding package, along with cosy blankets so guests can snuggle up under a heater or two for a spot of star-gazing out on the terrace.  Eclectic 1, British winter 0.

Let it glow

Whether you want to create a frosty winter wonderland with blue up-lights and a snowflake motif, or opt for a subtle icy effect you’ll be sure to have fun watching your winter wedding come together.  There are plenty of fun pieces out there, and there’s honestly no better excuse to add sparkle to your day, we think the glitzier the better!  Try fairy lights strewn across railings, or sequinned table cloths and glittering pinecone place settings.  There’s no shortage of winter flower options either, have a go at combining textures for your centrepieces; white birch branches adorned with a mixture of feathers, white orchids and fairy lights.  Or nestle some candles amongst berries in a hurricane glass for a dash of colourful winter energy.  As favours for your guests why not try quintessential wintery gifts!  Cute portions of homemade cookies, mulled wine spices or candy canes.  Or a single red rose to really show your appreciation for people battling out a storm to celebrate your day!

We don’t know what works for you, but we do know winter weddings are ultra special and so fun to plan – enjoy bringing yours together!
